While en route to Florida last weekend, Jerry and I started noticing that pretty much every fast food restaurant out there is doing some type of cheap snack wrap thing these days. Intrigued by these small and cheap treats, Jerry had the idea to do a comparison test between the major players in the wrap game, so tonight we made that happen. The idea was simple: stop by all the fast food establishments by my house that had cheap (sub $2) wraps, eat them, and see which was the most delicious (all while photographing and videoing the entire process). We ended up only making it by 3 of the major players (McDonald’s, Wendys, and KFC), so those are the contestants for tonight’s entry. We may end up doing a round 2 featuring a few other places (right now, we know that Sonic and DQ have these things), followed by the finals, so check back soon. Now, onto the scientific data…

All the contestants lined up in their bags:

From bottom to top: McDonalds, Wendys, KFC (then repeat at the top)

Now that you’ve seen the entries, here are a few more facts about them. The McDonalds wrap was $1.39 and right in the middle as far as size goes. Wendy’s was the priciest at $1.59 and also the smallest. KFC was the largest and also the cheapest, ringing up at $1.29. Now our scientific process was a bit off for this test, and we did have some inconsistencies with ordering. Originally, the plan was to get each wrap totally plain (just chicken and a tortilla), and since I’m extremely picky, that worked out well for me. Only problem is this didn’t leave much individuality, and we were essentially eating a chicken strip wrapped up in a flour tortilla. We did order this way from McDonalds, but by the time we got to Wendy’s, Jerry “accessorized” his with lettuce, sauce, and all that other stuff. I still opted for the plain route, but did order the spicy chicken option. At KFC, Jerry’s was again loaded up and I also ended up with cheese on mine.

Here’s myself and Jerry enjoying a couple of the contenders:

As far as taste goes, the McDonalds wrap was a nice intro. Good, crispy chicken with a hint of spiciness and a nice tortilla. Wendy’s was even spicier (which I enjoyed a great deal), and possibly had an even softer and tastier tortilla shell. Thanks to the grated cheese and the “grilled” option at KFC, we all pretty much decided that theirs taste pretty much like Taco Bell. I for one haven’t eaten taco bell in well over a year due to the fact that it tends to make me extremely sick, and I think traces of that same feeling were linked to the KFC wrap. It wasn’t totally horrible, but it reminded me way too much of cheap mexican food to enjoy it thoroughly.

Here we have Shiz videoing the action as Jerry and I eat:

The verdict? Aside from it being the most expensive (although only by 20 cents, and I’m not even cheap enough to care about that), we all chose Wendy’s spicy wrap as the leader. McDonald’s had a decently close second, and KFC ended up at the bottom.

Wendy’s, the winner for the evening:

After Jerry and I finished, we gave Shiz our leftovers and he agreed with the results. He really seemed to dislike the KFC one, although he finished both of ours without a problem.

Jerry has the video portion of this test and is currently editing the footage, so check back soon to see the sure to be amazing motion documentary of this fine evening. Thanks for reading the first official liketoeat food showdown, and check back soon for many more!
